Frederick E. Baer Professorship in Business
Frederick and Patricia Baer established the Frederick E. Baer Professorship in Business in 2005. Mr. Baer married Patricia Wood on July 1, 1947, in Green Bay after serving in World War II. He joined Paper Converting Machine Corporation in December 1948 and over a 44-year career held a number of positions, culminating in serving as the company’s president and CEO from 1969 until his retirement in 1993. Under his leadership, the international company grew to three wholly-owned subsidiaries in Green Bay, manufacturing plant in England and Germany and a sales and service office in Japan. He was regarded as philanthropic icon in Green Bay as he was extensively involved as a volunteer for dozens of area not-for-profit causes. Frederick E. Baer died on August 29, 2006, at the age of 82.
The award recognizes and gives support for a tenured faculty member who has demonstrated a productive commitment to scholarship and/or outreach and whose work exemplifies the spirit and mission of the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. The Frederick E. Baer Professorship is specified to faculty who work directly with business leaders, business development, or students who later enter the business world. Eligibility is not restricted to faculty in the professional program of Business Administration.
