Byron Walter Hall Staff

Two floors of Byron Walter Hall has a Resident Mentor (RM), a trained student who lives in the building and oversees about 30 students each. Their primary role is to help develop community on your floor or wing, but they also are trained in peer guidance, leadership development, crisis intervention and establishing community standards. Duty Staff

In the evening and on weekends, select Resident Mentors (RMs) are on duty to handle your after-hours needs and concerns. Byron Walter Hall has an assigned pair of RMs that oversee nearby buildings* each night. Resident Mentors are on duty from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on school nights and 9 p.m. to 3 a.m Friday and Saturday. STEM Community

Byron Walter Hall is home to the STEM Living Learning Community. It's a tight-knit group of students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. Along with living in the hall, you'll also take HUM BIOL 198 First Year Seminar to balance building relationships both in and outside of the classroom.

The STEM Community is one of several thematic and academic residential communities available in UW-Green Bay on-campus housing. These communities are designed to provide students with unique living experiences that enhance their academic and personal growth.

About Byron Walter

The Byron L. Walter Trust supported a wide range of community projects including educational initiatives and development on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The trust is the legacy of Byron L. (Barney) Walter, a native of Monroe, Michigan, who spent most of his adult life in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Mr. Walter attended a trade school in Milwaukee and came to Green Bay in 1898 as a 21-year-old plumber's apprentice. He began his business career as an office boy for the Gotredson Bros. Hardware Company. By the time the Morley Murphy Company bought the store, Mr. Walter had worked his way up to buyer. He left Morley Murphy in 1906 to form a partnership in a new hardware and sheet metal company, later to be known as Green Bay Hardware, Inc., and was president there until his retirement in 1953. He was a cofounder of the Paper Converting Machine Company, which is still active locally and internationally, and served for a time as company president.
