Robishaw Hall Staff

Duty Staff

In the evening and on weekends, select Resident Mentors (RMs) are on duty to handle your after-hours needs and concerns. About John Robishaw

John Robishaw was born on March 3, 1914 in Illinois and pursued his education at Northwestern University, Evanston, and Loyola University of Chicago. He attained the Certified Public Accounting certificate in 1935 and from 1943 until 1946 served in the United States Army.

Robishaw, known as Jack to his friends, moved to Northeastern Wisconsin following his military service. Over several years he worked as partner-in-charge of Alexander Grant and Company's Green Bay office, treasurer of Unit Structures, Inc. of Peshtigo, and business manager for the Norbertine Fathers and WBAY-TV. Mr. Robishaw founded an accounting firm in 1959 and worked in it with business partner Vincent Hermans until his retirement in 1976.

Robishaw's business and civic activities included offices and directorships of numerous area companies and organizations, including United Bankshares, Inc., St. Norbert Abbey, and the Green Bay Newspaper company, publisher of the Press-Gazette and its subsidiaries.

At the time of his death in 1994, Mr. Robishaw was eulogized as a creative businessman whose insights into business brought success and earned him the respect of his peers. His capacity for creative planning was much evident in the early 1980s when UW-Green Bay-with campus housing for just 562 students—sought his advice on the development of residence halls. He recommended a limited-purpose corporation and set about recruiting knowledgeable volunteer leadership.

The corporation envisioned by Mr. Robishaw was established in 1984 as University Village Housing, Inc. Its express and sole purpose was and continues to be the provision of low-cost housing for students of UW-Green Bay. Between 1985 and 1994, eleven residence halls were constructed under the aegis of the corporation to provide housing for nearly 800 resident students.

The addition of John I. Robishaw Hall, in 1997, brought the on-campus housing capacity to over 1200 students (at the time).
