Tony Werner serves as the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and Alumni Relations at UW-Green Bay. An energetic advocate for strategic philanthropy for over 30 years during his career, his influence helped pioneer medical research discoveries, build and update a wide variety of facilities serving the public good, and launch grassroots efforts to protect children from unintentional injury. As a C-Suite executive for 17 years, his innovative style of employee engagement and unique team approach to campaign management are distinguishing signatures of his work. He is most well-known for connecting donors with authentic gift opportunities that have lasting impact.

Tony oversees private giving to UW-Green Bay in his role as President and Chief Operating Officer of the UW-Green Bay Foundation. The University operates structured programs for annual, campaign, and estate giving. Tony and the entire advancement team are dedicated professionals who work to assure that donor gifts are directed to high impact purposes to better equip the University to educate graduates who are prepared for both career success and thoughtful community engagement in an increasingly complex world.
Former leadership roles for Tony include serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation, and President of three hospital-affiliated charitable foundations in Toledo, Ohio. Also noteworthy was his three years of service to UW-Green Bay from 1997-1999 as director of development at the Edward W. Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.

In the greater Green Bay region, Tony’s been instrumental in the founding of the Center for Childhood Safety, and a force behind visionary capital projects at Old St. Joseph Church (on the campus of St. Norbert College) and St. John the Baptist Church (Howard).

He earned his undergraduate degree in communication from St. Norbert College, his graduate degree in management from Cardinal Stritch University, and his financial planning designation (Chartered Financial Consultant) from The American College.

Tony’s four sons are university graduates, including two UW-Green Bay Phoenix!
