Internships are an excellent opportunity to acquire design experience in a professional setting. Availability varies from semester to semester, but qualified students are usually able to find a site placement.

Student eligibility requirements include completing Design Arts 332, Design Arts Studio II and maintaining a 3.0 GPA. The internship site must provide a design professional to supervise internship activities.

Students interested in pursuing an internship should contact the program adviser early in the semester prior to applying for internship credits.

Interns must complete 50 hours of site work per credit, maintain a journal that documents their hourly activities and collect a portfolio of work produced during the term.

Registration is a two part process. A contact form and internship goals worksheet must be completed by the site supervisor and student. The student must then meet with the faculty sponsoring the internship to complete the registration form.

Evaluation forms are mailed to the site supervisor two or three weeks before the end of the semester and when they are completed and returned to the faculty sponsor, a debrief session can be scheduled.

Students are allowed to take up to 12 credits, with three counting towards program requirements.
