Many treatments suggest or even require ongoing supervision and consultation, but the function of this mode of treatment in Dialectical Behavior Therapy is distinctly different than any other treatment in that it serves as therapy for the therapist. Moving away from typical forms of consultation, which largely focus on case presentations and supervision of treatment planning, DBT consultation requires therapists to participate as both providers and recipients of DBT and a focus on themselves rather than clients. Achieving this function can be exceptionally difficult for new teams who have not had the opportunity for modeling. This training will address the ins and outs of effective consultation teams including in depth discussion of the consultation agreements, forming effective consultation needs, and navigating team difficulties skillfully. This training will be a combination of didactic and interactive practice and requires a commitment to active participation.
